NanoChemistry Lab

The Nanochemistry Lab is active within the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Trieste. The research is focused mainly on the design, synthesis and studies of organic-inorganic hybrid nanoparticles protected by self-assembled monolayers with the aim to understand and control the interactions between the surface of nanoparticles and the environment and to exploit their activity. The main goal is the tailoring of nanosystems for therapy and diagnostic (theranostic). In the last years we focused our research on the exploitation of mixtures of hydrogenated and fluorinated ligands as tool to control the properties of the nanoparticles. Moreover, designed fluorinated ligands are used to impart imaging properties to the nanoparticles for MRI. Additionally, the features of the designed nanoparticles are employed to develop new materials and to control their self-assembling in stimuli responsive processes.
