From September 7th to September 9th 2022 the 25th National Congress of the Italian Society of Human Genetics (SIGU) was held at the Trieste Convention Center. The event saw the participation of over 800 people including researchers, postgraduates and doctoral students from all over Italy.
On this occasion, Aurora Santin, a PhD student in Medical Genetics from IRCCS "Burlo Garofolo", received the "Giuseppe Pilia" Award for the best contribution on complex diseases. The study presented aims to identify the genetic factors underlying hearing function and presbycusis, a very common multifactorial pathology in the elderly population, characterised by the progressive reduction of hearing capacity. The results of this study may help to clarify the complex molecular mechanisms underlying hearing function and related pathologies.
