Our PhD Students: Maksym Koltunov

When:

My name is Maksym Koltunov. My academic path started with the BSc and MSc in Economics of Agribusiness from Ukraine and a Joint European Master Degree in Comparative Local Development from Hungary, Germany, and Italy. I am an Erasmus Mundus alumni. Before starting the research path, I had led the social work NGO “Skify” as well as worked for the traditional business in Ukraine, the USA, and China. My hobby is traveling by hitchhiking and mountaineering. I have traveled to about 25 countries in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. Besides, Buddhist meditation Vipassana is an important part of my life. The main area of my expertise is renewable energy communities (RECs). RECs do not produce CO2 emissions and have participative organizational nature. Therefore, I believe that this phenomenon can pave the way to more just and environmentally friendly circular energy systems. During the Ph.D., I would like to investigate new methodologies for the evaluation of economic, social, and environmental impacts of RECs on the welfare of towns and villages. It will help to create better policies for the deployment of a distributed citizen energy.

Another area of my professional curiosity is local development and smart city projects.
