Research Title:
Impact of Energy Communities on Multiple Stakeholders: from Review to Management, and Economics
Project description:

The project consists of three distinct lines of research activities, although all of them are related to various aspects of the status quo and the deployment of energy communities (ECs). The review research has resulted in the publication of two scientific papers and the last is still in process:

  • Institutional and policy context of energy communities in France and Italy: how to increase the
    welfare-enhancing capacity of the sector
  • Mapping of Energy Communities in Europe: Status Quo and Review of Existing Classifications
  • Energy communities: a bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review
The management research is related to the investigation of the possibilities for energy communities to publish ESG (Environment, Society, and Governance) report. This study has a qualitative nature and, in the first phase, aims at consultation with a wide range of ECs' stakeholders, but mostly financial institutions. In the second phase, two case studies of established energy cooperatives will be evaluated for the possibility of publishing an ESG report. The most suitable standards, topics, metrics, and methodologies for ESG reporting by ECs are expected to be the main findings. A comparative discussion on ESG reporting differences for distinct business models will conclude.
The economics research aims to reveal how the deployment of energy communities in Italy will impact wholesale and retail electricity prices. Quantitative mathematical and econometric simulation are the main methods in this endeavor.
