Graduate School in Chemistry
Organization and practical information
The Graduate School in Chemistry is run jointly by the University of Trieste (UniTs, administrative headquarter) and by the University of Venezia (UniVe). The two cities, located in the north-east of Italy, are ca. 150 km apart. Each Ph D position is either in Trieste or in Venice, even though joint events will takes place.
The duration of the Graduate School in Chemistry is 3 years. Every year on November 1st the School starts a new triennial Cycle. The candidates are selected (usually in July every year) by a Commission. The selection involves the evaluation of the CV (including a research programme written by the candidate) and an interview. Fellowships will be assigned to the successful candidates in order of decreasing mark. Applicants from every Country are welcome, provided that they have an undergraduate degree comparable to the Italian ‘Laurea Magistrale’. Applications must be submitted exclusively on line, after UniTs has released the competition announcement (typically in May) see (http://www2.units.it/dott/en/?file=DottBandi.inc), for chemistry, see “Attachment 3”.
For details see the bilingual website of the University of Trieste (http://www.units.it/dottorati/ “How to apply”) and this document.
Ph D application step-by-step
For the application, go to (http://www2.units.it/dott/en/) and on the left menu click on “How to apply” . Then follow the instructions and register on-line.
For 2018 the Graduate School in Chemistry has 11 fellowships available, 5 for UniTs and 6 for UniVe.

All the admitted candidates may decide to enrol (typically the enrolment has to be done within November 1). In 2018, all the 11 successful candidates will have a full fellowships, provided that they fulfil the requirements concerning their income.
Macthing student with research project
The modality applied to match the Ph D students with the research projects is slightly different at UniTs and UniVe.
For UniTs, the fellowships will be linked to the research topics reported at the PhD website https://web.units.it/dottorato/chimica. Students will make their choice in order of decreasing mark at the admission test (best students choose first).
For UniVe, the fellowships will be linked to the research topics active at DSMN (http://www.unive.it/nqcontent.cfm?a_id=139838). Students will make their choice in order of decreasing mark at the admission test (best students choose first).
